On Friday March 7th, Connor went to go pick
Carson up from my mom’s to have him come hang out with us for an hour or so
before we took him back for a sleep over. Well when he went to get him, Carson
was crawling on the floor at my moms. Connor went to pick him up, and something
went wrong with Carson’s thumb. We are not sure if it got pulled back somehow,
but Carson went nuts. He was shaking and needed an ice pack. He would not stop
crying and we were sure it was broken or dislocated. We tried looking at it and
moving it to make sure and he lost his mind. Thank goodness InstaCare has a
location less than a mile from our house, so off we went. By the time the wait was over to see the
doctor Carson was acting fine. He was moving it and seemed to be on the mend.
They did an X-ray to be sure and everything looked great. The doctor was a
little concerned about how he could not straighten his thumb all the way, but
said it was probably nothing and to check in with our pediatrician if we were
concerned. We left and he had a sleepover. He would wince if he did something
to pull on it but other than that did great. His thumb was pretty swollen for
the next week still and when he would get it caught on anything he was
miserable. (I would be to if my thumb couldn't straighten). About a week later
I made an appointment for Carson to see his pediatrician, just to see what was
going on. Well we got there and he took us straight over to the Orthopedic
Surgeon. They informed us it was Trigger Thumb. The best way to explain it is,
think of a fishing pole. It has little loops that the fishing line goes
through. Well your tendon in your thumb does the same thing. It goes through a
system of “pulleys”. Well either Hereditary or by injury Carson’s Tendon had an
enlarged part of it. So when it passed through a Pulley, it was too big to go
back through, and therefore it was stuck. He could not straighten it at all.
They said they would go in and just cut that pulley so he could move. Easy as
pie. So well we decided why not. We waited for the New Insurance to begin and
then scheduled surgery for April 10th.
Ya this was not a big surgery, but I was still so nervous. First Surgery for
Carson and I was really needing to prep.
