Update on Carson

On Monday May 16th. I took Carson back into the doctor to have him look at him. He seemed to be getting worse. He started keeping food down by then, but he was just so miserable still. Well, they checked his temperature and oxygen, and they were just fine, but Dr. Odell was concerned with how fast he was breathing and how coarse he was. So he wanted a chest x-ray. Anyone who has had to have a chest x-ray done on little babies understands how much fun it is! Carson screamed and screamed, and his voice is gone since he has been sick, so it was almost funny to hear, because hardly any sounds come out.
Well after chest x-ray we went back down to the doctors office to see what they found. Dr.Odell let us know that Carson had pneumonia. He said since there is no fever and his oxygen is good, that he wouldn't have to be hospitalized, but to watch him very closely. He was put on an antibiotic, and we were told to just keep an eye on him and not to hesitate to call or go in if anything changed at all.
They also had a nurse come in to stick a tube up into his sinus to squirt some saline in and suck it back out to get some snot for RSV and Influenza tests. We will find out the result of those on Thursday.
He seems to be doing good, the antibiotics are helping, but his cough is so terrible. He just coughs over and over and gags. I wish I could take it away from him. I already have the cough he has and at my doctors appointment tomorrow will find out if I too have pneumonia. It definitely feels like it in my chest.
Oh and when we were at the doctor and he found out he was averaging about 32-37 ounces of milk/formula a day, Dr. Odell said we needed to cut it back. He can't have more than 32 ounces. If he wants more, than we are supposed to introduce rice cereal. Most babies start at 4 months, and I guess at 2.5 months we will have to start. Just waiting for him to feel better. Ever since he has been sick we have been lucky if he will eat 4 ounces every 3 hours. I really don't think he is a fat baby, definitely chubby so that wasn't fun to hear, but oh well. He has been sleeping better at night, unless he has a coughing attack, so it has been nice.
Sorry about the rambling!
